Mid-Level Developer (Front-end)

EngineeringLuanda, AngolaFull-time

About the role

The Mid-Level Developer reports to the CTO, works closely with the Senior Developer and delivers features end to end, interface included, with quality and good autonomy. Because Velship has no dedicated designer, front-end work combined with UI/UX and design skills is highly valued in this role. Velship works AI-first: everyone uses AI every day to work faster and better, and people stay responsible for the result.

What you will do

  • Build features, screens, integrations and automations to the team's specifications and standards
  • Use AI tools in a disciplined way, and review and test the code they produce
  • Write tests and documentation for what you build
  • Take part in code reviews, giving and receiving feedback
  • Fix bugs and handle maintenance requests within the agreed deadlines
  • Raise blockers, questions and deadline risks early
  • Work with the project manager and the CTO to clarify requirements
  • Design and build interfaces with care for usability, visual consistency and responsiveness, starting from the brand guide and using AI for layout variations, prototypes and components
  • Turn client needs into simple flows and screens before building them, and check them with the project manager

What we look for

  • 3 to 5 years of professional software development
  • Good command of front-end development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript or TypeScript, and React or Next.js), plus APIs and databases
  • Knowledge of Git, testing and good code-quality practice
  • Experience building responsive interfaces from designs and a component system
  • Experience with the pull-request workflow and with working in an agile team
  • The ability to work autonomously on well-defined tasks and to ask for help when needed
  • A degree in Computer Engineering or a related field, or proven equivalent experience
  • Daily, proven use of AI tools in development, with concrete examples of how they sped up your work and how you verified the result
  • Fluent Portuguese; English to read technical documentation

Nice to have

  • A strong front-end side, with UI/UX and interface design knowledge
  • A portfolio that shows design decisions, component systems, responsiveness and accessibility awareness (highly valued, and the main differentiator in selection)

How we select

In the selection you solve a real task from the role with your own AI tools, including turning a need into a screen or flow, and you explain your workflow, how you checked the result and the limits you ran into.

What to expect

A small team, short lines to decision-makers and real ownership of your work. Compensation is discussed directly with candidates.
